Weekly Jam Session
Fiddle Tunes for Dancing every Wednesday
Hello,
Kind of wet, but such a nice break from last week’s heat! I did grab some hot weather firefly and thunderhead images and some floral captures in the last few days.
Musicians: If you play an instrument and are curious about the Canaan Jam session, you should just come. Show up listen, join in or not. We play mostly fiddle tunes that have been around the area for decades, the closest thing to a genre would be “contra dance tunes”, which is why I call it ‘fiddle tunes for dancing’.
I keep a ‘short e-list’ for this session that goes out weekly to folks who have been here or have expressed interest. Here is a clip from this mornings message:
Wed July 8th - "Fiddle Tunes for Dancing" The Canaan Session 7-9 pm weekly here at The Canaan Institute. This is the oldest ongoing contra tune session in our area. Open to all. We play fiddle tunes from Contra, New England, Quebecois, Finland, World and USA. We typically play one tune at a time (like old-time, except in random keys) and we go around the jam circle so everybody gets a chance to pick a tune or two. We have sheet music if you want it. See “fiddle tune books - free sheet music” in menu on website. Directions on website www.cinst.org . Our Facebook group for this jam session https://www.facebook.com/groups/canaan.music.jam
Take a drive to Canaan Rd - If you are at all on the fence, just come on out. It is worth the drive for the fireflies afterward.
You can find prints and greeting cards made from my photos seven days per week at Handwork Coop in downtown Ithaca along with items from dozens of other local artists.
Please “like” and “share” so your friends can see these photos and learn about the music. Thanks so much! -Mike :)
