Summer music
Metku in Candor, Open Jam in Brooktondale
Happy Thursday,
We are playing music this afternoon at a lovely rural farmers market in Candor NY. Why Candor? Well, it just happens to be our fiddler’s hometown and we thought it would be fun. Fingers crossed on the weather, but they do have a nice pavilion to keep us dry. The band is Metku - we play traditional Finnish dance music which is one of our regional old-time music styles. My grandmother was one of the Finns who settled here over a century ago. Music 3:30-6:30 pm at 101 Owego Rd, Candor, NY 13743. More info metku.org
Closer to home, Brooktondale is hosting their 250 celebration on Saturday. There will be music and lots of family activities. We will start the music with an open band which I will monitor from 10:30am-12:30pm. If you have ever sat in on one of my jam sessions here then you know what we do and you are welcome to join in. We’ll be outdoors and we will run it like a jam session and play from the local tuneset which you can download for free on my website. Schedule for the day is here. Renee and Uncle Joe are playing right after us!
Jam session every Wednesday. Come visit! Other fun music and dance events on the Canaan calendar https://canaaninstitute.org/mikesmusicblog/events/
